
BACOLOD CITY — A sudden whirlwind hit the coastal communities of Hinigaran, Negros Occidental on Thursday morning, causing partial damage to 20 homes, according to Mayor Grace Arceo.
The roofs of the affected houses were blown off, the mayor said.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said the incident occurred at around 6:45 a.m., catching residents by surprise as swirling winds ripped through the communities.

The partially damaged houses were in Punta Pasil of Barangay Tagda-8, Sitio Raming of Barangay Pilar-7, and Punta Tanulo of Barangay Pilar-3, the PDRRMO said.
No casualties or severe injuries have been reported.
The local government of Hinigaran immediately deployed response teams to assess the full extent of the destruction and provide the necessary relief and assistance to the affected families.
Galvanized iron sheets were provided to the affected households, Arceo said./coa
