Talent manager Mannix Carancho came to the defense of his artist, Sofia “Fyang” Smith, against allegations that the actress has a “bad attitude.”
Carancho made the statement during a press conference on Thursday, July 9, in Quezon City, as he introduced the roster of artists under Mannix Management.
The talent manager first shared how Smith first became part of the agency as he emphasized that the “Pinoy Big Brother: Gen 11” Big Winner is simply “misunderstood.”

“Bumibisita sa Mannix House, nagko-content. Nagustuhan po namin siya at nagustuhan niya rin yung environment po doon. Naging probationary muna kami for three to six months. Ngayon, three years ko na siyang mina-manage,” he said.

Carancho, who is also the CEO of Prestige International, admitted he did not expect Smith’s rise to fame but immediately saw her potential.
“Di ko naman sobrang in-expect, pero nakitaan ko po siya ng potential na malayo ang mararating niya. Talented po siya at marunong makisama,” he said.
Asked about reports describing Smith as “maldita” or having a bad attitude, the manager dismissed the claims.

“Siguro dahil hindi niya pa close ’yung maraming tao, akala tinatarayan sila. Pero kapag nakilala niyo siya, wala kang masasabi sa pakikisama niya,” Carancho said.
He further described the actress as kind and easy to work with. “Napakabait, walang masamang tinapay. Walang insecurities. Gusto niya lang mag-enjoy,” he added.

When asked if fame had changed Smith, Carancho said the opposite was true. “Para sa akin, hindi naman po. Parang lumiit pa nga kasi mas seryoso na siya sa trabaho. Misunderstood lang,” he said.
Carancho also said he does not interfere with Smith’s personal life, including her rumored romance with fellow “PBB Gen 11” housemate JM Ibarra, who has publicly been courting her.
“Wala naman po. Iguguide lang po siya pero siya pa rin ang magde-decide. Binibigyan lang po siya ng advice. Like kilalanin niya muna, alamin ’yung gagawin niya,” he said.
Smith rose to fame after emerging as the Big Winner of “Pinoy Big Brother: Gen 11” in 2024. She is currently co-managed by Mannix Management and ABS-CBN’s Star Magic.
The actress recently appeared in “Shake, Rattle & Roll Evil Origins.” She also headlined the romantic comedy fantasy television series “Ghosting” and “Love Is Never Gone” alongside Ibarra.
Smith and Ibarra, collectively known by fans as “JMFyang,” have also recently starred in their first lead roles in the film “Almost Us.”
