
COTABATO CITY – Bangsamoro interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua directed on Thursday all governors and town mayors to be in the forefront of government response to rainfall-induced calamities that hit low-lying areas in the region.
Macacua reminded all local government executives that they are expected to be the first to respond to emergencies.

He assured them of augmentation and support from the regional government.

“The Bangsamoro Government is prepared to conduct reinforcement operations whenever local authorities require additional assistance,” he said in his emergency cabinet meeting at the Bangsamoro Government Center here on Thursday.
About 1,000 families have been evacuated to safer grounds following flash floods that submerged low-lying communities in Parang in Maguindanao del Norte; Guindulungan, Talayan, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Ampatuan, and Datu Hoffer Ampatuan in Maguindanao del Sur; and Bongao in Tawi-Tawi, according to the Bangsamoro Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (READi).
The affected families are now housed in municipal gymnasiums, covered courts and village centers.
Several major roads in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Guindulungan, and Talayan remain impassable due to flooding and other storm-related impacts.
Macacua said the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) has pre-positioned relief goods and hygiene kits ready for distribution to affected communities. /jpv
