
MARAWI CITY – Retiring Armed Forces Chief of Staff, Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. honored troops during his exit visit at Kampo Ranao here on Thursday morning.
Brawner, who will retire on July 20, laid a wreath at the Tears From Heaven monument inside the camp of the Army’s 103rd Infantry “Haribon” Brigade.
He was assisted by Brig. Gen. Jessie Montoya, who replaced retired Brig. Gen. Billy O. Dela Rosa.

In his message, Brawner told the troops “that there are still many important things to do.”
“It doesn’t matter what unit you belong to – but with one vision, let us continue working as professional soldiers, ” he said.
Brawner said the Armed Forces of the Philippines “has been shifting to territorial defense,” citing the external threats posed by China over the West Philippine Sea.
Brawner heads the Task Force Ranao during the five-month Marawi siege that erupted on May 23, 2017, and became the brigade commander in December 2018.

His arrival here was part of an exit visit to the troops before his retirement.
He was accompanied by Lt. Gen. Donald Gumiran, Western Mindanao Command chief; Maj. Gen. Yegor Rey Baroquillio Jr., commander of 1st Infantry ” Tabak” Division and Task Force Zampelan; and Brig. Gen. Yasser Bara, commander of the 101st Infantry Brigade.

Brawner is a member and salutatorian of PMA Makatao Class of 1989 and is the military’s 60th chief of staff. He was appointed in July 2023.
The 58-year-old soldier was born and raised in Baguio City. His parents were the late Court of Appeals Presiding Justice Romeo Brawner Sr., and the late University of the Philippines Baguio professor Lenora Fe Brawner, one of the original faculty of the Baguio campus. /mr
