Small Portuguese Hotels has expanded its portfolio with the addition of five new independent properties, strengthening its presence across Portugal ahead of the peak summer season.
The latest additions include Artsy Cascais and Estoril Boutique Hotel on the Lisbon Coast, Gran Cruz Apartments near Porto, Vila Valverde Design & Country Hotel in the Algarve, and Quinta da Asneira in the Alentejo.
The expansion reflects the group’s strategy of bringing together independently owned hotels that showcase the character, heritage and diversity of Portuguese hospitality.
Rita Alves Machado, vice-president of Sales and Marketing at Small Portuguese Hotels, said the new additions broaden the range of experiences available to guests while maintaining the quality and personalised service for which the collection is known.
“New destinations also mean new opportunities for our guests, so it is important that we continue expanding our offer while maintaining the high standards that distinguish us in the market,” she said.
She added that each property offers visitors a different way to experience Portugal, whether through historic heritage, contemporary art, gastronomy, wine tourism or natural landscapes, while promoting personalised and sustainable tourism.
Algarve retreat
Among the new additions is the Vila Valverde Design & Country Hotel near Lagos, which joins the collection as its Algarve representative.
Set within five hectares of gardens, orchards and an organic vegetable garden overlooking Praia da Luz bay, the boutique hotel combines contemporary design with the tranquillity of the Algarve countryside.
Guests can enjoy a spa, outdoor swimming pool, locally inspired cuisine and easy access to both Lagos and Praia da Luz.
Diverse destinations
In Cascais, the Artsy Cascais occupies a restored 19th-century mansion overlooking the Atlantic, featuring a sculpted façade by renowned Portuguese street artist Vhils, alongside a rooftop pool and a restaurant specialising in sustainably sourced seafood.
The Estoril Boutique Hotel offers 26 rooms in the heart of Estoril, close to the resort’s beaches, cultural attractions and the UNESCO-listed landscape of Sintra.
Further north, the Gran Cruz Apartments in Vila Nova de Gaia comprise six fully equipped apartments overlooking the Douro River, with interiors celebrating the region’s Port wine heritage through works by Portuguese artists Tamara Alves and João Bernardino.
Meanwhile, the Quinta da Asneira, near Montemor-o-Novo in the Alentejo, offers accommodation on a 20-hectare estate within an ecological reserve, combining historic gardens, traditional olive groves and views of the medieval castle. The property is also pet-friendly, with enclosed outdoor areas for guests travelling with dogs.
With the five new additions, Small Portuguese Hotels continues to expand its collection of independently owned boutique properties, offering travellers a range of distinctive accommodation across Portugal.
