
KORONADAL CITY — Nearly 600 families in several barangays in Northern Kabuntalan, Maguindanao del Norte were displaced by flooding due to heavy rains triggered by Typhoon Inday (international name: Bavi) on Thursday.
Moctar Kabagani, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) chief, said the affected barangays include Damatog, Indatuan, Gayonga and Sabaken.
In Barangay Damatog, resident Maraga Sabal Sagadan said floodwaters rose to waist level in some areas, rendering roads impassable.

Motorcycles, pedicabs, and other vehicles were stranded, while residents moved on foot or used boats to travel.

Many houses and structures in the barangay were submerged. Some residents kept boats beside their homes as an alternative means of transportation or to move their motorcycles out of flooded areas.
Kabagani said 448 families from Barangay Damatog and 130 families from Barangay Gayonga were forcibly evacuated as heavy rains persisted and floodwaters continued to rise.
The evacuees were brought to temporary shelters, including barangay halls, covered courts, and the municipal evacuation center.
Responders have been assisting residents in the affected barangays and continue to monitor the situation, Kabagani said.

The local government unit has prepared food and relief packs for the displaced residents.
Floodwaters also reached the municipal hall and the local police station, affecting government operations in the town. /gsg
