LEGAZPI CITY, ALBAY, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard in Bicol has suspended sea travel in Camarines Norte and Catanduanes provinces as a precautionary measure against the possible impact of tropical cyclone Inday (international name: Bavi).
LTJG Alyzza Novie Bermal, information officer of Coast Guard District Bicol, said vessels with 250 gross tons or less have been prohibited from sailing in Camarines Norte. In Catanduanes, all types of vessels have been barred from traveling following the raising of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.

“The travel restrictions were imposed to ensure the safety of passengers, vessel operators, and maritime workers as the approaching weather disturbance threatens to bring rough seas and strong winds,” she said.

Meanwhile, the PCG Bicol has placed its personnel and rescue assets on standby to respond to possible emergencies across the region.

A total of 640 Coast Guard personnel have been deployed, backed by 10 land assets and 14 floating assets that will be utilized for search and rescue operations, evacuation support, and humanitarian assistance.

Commodore Ivan Roldan, PCG Bicol commander, said all Coast Guard stations and substations in the region have been placed on heightened alert to ensure immediate response to any incidents that may arise from the storm.
He said the agency is also coordinating with local government units and other disaster response offices to strengthen preparations, particularly in coastal communities vulnerable to severe weather conditions. /cb
