After spending five years at Animal Welfare Malta without finding a family to adopt her, Lucia is finally getting the second chance she deserves.
The heartwarming update was shared by Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Welfare Alicia Bugeja Said, who revealed that Lucia, who is living with a tumour, will soon be travelling to Ireland, where she will spend the rest of her life at a beautiful animal sanctuary.
“Another chance for Lucia,” Bugeja Said wrote, celebrating the dog’s new beginning after years of patiently waiting for a forever home in Malta.
She also thanked the dedicated volunteers at Animal Welfare Malta who cared for Lucia throughout her stay, saying their love and commitment made a real difference in the dog’s life.
Animal Welfare Malta worked to secure Lucia a place at the Irish sanctuary after years of trying to find her a suitable home locally.
With no adoption offers coming forward in Malta and Lucia also living with a tumour, the sanctuary will provide her with the specialised care, comfort and peaceful environment she needs to enjoy the rest of her life.
For animals with complex medical needs or those who have spent years waiting without being adopted, these sanctuaries can often offer the best possible outcome.
After years of waiting, Lucia will now spend the rest of her days surrounded by care and comfort in her new sanctuary, offering a touching ending to a long journey.
