TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN, Philippines — The Department of Health in Cagayan Valley has imposed a code white alert status for all health facilities in the region as Typhoon Inday gathers strength as it approaches Northern Luzon.
Dr. Ferdinand Benbenen, DOH regional director, has ordered DOH-operated hospitals to reactivate emergency response mechanisms and form standby emergency teams.

The health team members will be on standby 24/7 for immediate emergency response while the Regional Health Emergency Response Teams are monitoring the activities and may send additional forces, if needed, he added.

The Batanes provincial disaster risk reduction and management office earlier issued an advisory prohibiting boats from sailing.
Ships have earlier been barred from cruising the waters on July 8 as the coast guard cited safety risks and imposed precautionary measures.

Several villagers in coastal communities have voluntarily evacuated to higher grounds in Itbayat and Sabtang towns. /cb
