MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — A 35-year-old security guard is facing a complaint of frustrated murder after allegedly stabbing a fellow security guard eight times outside his girlfriend’s house in San Remigio, Cebu, police said.
The suspect, a resident of Barangay Don Pedro, San Remigio, is accused of attacking a 42-year-old resident of Barangay Kayam in the same town, at around 10:30 p.m. on July 8, 2026.
Police said the two men are connected through the same woman, the victim’s current girlfriend, who used to live with the suspect.

Victim stabbed multiple times
According to the police report, the victim was leaving his girlfriend’s house when the suspect reportedly appeared without warning and stabbed him multiple times in different parts of his body. The suspect then fled the scene.
The attack was reported to police at 11:04 p.m., about 34 minutes after it happened. Responding officers found that the victim had already been rushed to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City.
Jealousy eyed as motive
In a Friday, July 10 interview, Police Major Jan Ace Layug, chief of the San Remigio Municipal Police Station, said the relationship between the three individuals is central to the investigation.
Layug said the woman told police that she and the victim had only been together for about three days before the incident happened.
The chief said the suspect’s stated reason for going to the woman’s house was to retrieve personal belongings he had left behind, not to win her back.

The suspect happened to find the victim at the house when he arrived, Layug said, which is when the confrontation is believed to have occurred.
“We could assume that’s what happened, since they both ended up there,” Layug said.
Police have yet to recover the weapon used in the stabbing and could not confirm what type of bladed weapon it was, only that it was sharp, according to Layug.
Investigators also have yet to determine if the suspect carried the weapon with him.
He reportedly claimed he picked it up inside the woman’s house, though Layug said the woman, who owns the house, told police none of her kitchen knives were missing.
Suspect surrenders
Investigators said the victim was able to positively identify the suspect as his attacker while being questioned at the hospital.
Police in Bogo City later informed San Remigio authorities that the suspect had surrendered at their station, leading to his arrest.
As of this writing, the victim is still being treated at the medical facility while the suspect is currently detained at the custodial facility of the San Remigio Municipal Police Station as authorities prepare the appropriate charges against him.
