A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing electrical bulbs and other appliances from a classroom at the Federal University of Education, Pankshin (FUEP), Plateau State.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended by the university’s security team on Wednesday during a heavy downpour.
The Federal University of Education, Pankshin confirmed the incident through its Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Charles Nda Homsuk.
According to him, the suspect was arrested following the swift intervention of security personnel, who foiled the alleged theft and recovered the stolen electrical items.
The institution said the suspect had been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution, while reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property on campus.
According to him, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Noel Wannang, has commended the Chief Security Officer, Wing Commander Paul Maimako Yusuf (Rtd.), and members of the university’s security unit for their vigilance, bravery and professionalism.
He said the prompt response of the security personnel prevented the alleged theft and underscored the effectiveness of the institution’s security architecture.
Speaking after the arrest of the suspects,, the Chief Security Officer appreciated members of the university’s security unit, hunters engaged for night patrols and other stakeholders for their collaborative efforts in strengthening security across the campus.
The Chief Security Officer also urged students, staff and other members of the university community to remain law-abiding, refrain from all forms of criminal activity, and promptly report suspicious persons, unusual movements or security threats to the university’s Security Department.
