Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Tourism Ministry aims to attract 750,000 to 820,000 high-quality Indian visitors in 2026, building on momentum from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's July 6-8 state visit to Indonesia.
Tourism Ministry Spokesperson Nia Niscaya said here Friday that Modi's visit is expected to boost Indian interest in Indonesian destinations and strengthen confidence in the country's tourism safety and appeal.
She said Indian tourist arrivals have risen steadily over the past three years, reflecting growing demand for travel to Indonesia.
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded 606,439 Indian arrivals in 2023, rising to 710,207 in 2024 and 734,490 in 2025.
From January through May 2026, Indonesia welcomed 298,450 Indian visitors, according to BPS data.
Niscaya said Indian travelers seek diverse experiences, including nature, culture, honeymoons, wellness, culinary tourism, and nightlife.
The ministry has expanded promotions of Indonesia's priority destinations in the Indian market to diversify travel beyond Bali.
"We are promoting not only Bali but also Yogyakarta, Labuan Bajo, Lombok, Lake Toba and other priority destinations," Niscaya said.
The ministry is targeting higher-quality Indian visitors who stay longer, spend more, and respect local regulations and culture.
"We are selecting potential cities in India for sales missions and international exhibitions so our promotional efforts are more targeted," she said.
