MANILA, Philippines—Terrafirma opened its PBA Governors’ Cup campaign with a rousing 113-100 win over Titan Ultra at Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo on Friday.

The Dyip kicked off the season-ending conference with a Group B victory behind a dominant fourth-quarter performance, but coach Ronald Tubid said there is still plenty of work to do.

It is, after all, just the first game.

“We’re still improving, especially on offense and defense… every game and every practice, we need to compete so we carry over whatever we trained for in practice,” Tubid said in Filipino.

“We’re not there yet because we’re still trying to adjust with our new players like Juami (Tiongson) and Chris (Miller). As coaches, we’re not satisfied with this win because this was also an opportunity for our import to dominate so we’ll go back to zero.”

Terrafirma held a slim 89-87 lead in the fourth quarter when JM Bravo converted a tough three-point play with 8:07 remaining.

Although he missed the free throw, the basket sparked a game-clinching 18-7 run that stretched the Dyip’s lead to 107-94.

Aris Dionisio knocked down a three-pointer to trim Titan Ultra’s deficit to 107-97 with 2:05 left, but the Giant Risers couldn’t get any closer as they dropped their conference opener.

Dyip import Justin Strings impressed in his first game for Terrafirma with 25 points and 16 rebounds.

Geo Chiu, meanwhile, registered a double-double oe with 19 points and 23 rebounds. JM Bravo and Didat Hanapi also chipped in 15 and 14 points, respectively. Dyip returnee Juami Tiongson also had 13.

The Giant Risers played without import James Hilton due to clearance concerns. Dionisio scored 21 and snagged nine rebounds while Joshua Munzon had 15 points in the defeat.
