Some of the persons involved in the abduction of 46 pupils and teachers in Oyo State are currently in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), according to Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
Giving an update on the release of the victims, Onanuga revealed that eight kidnappers were arrested while several others were neutralised during the operation that secured the freedom of the victims who were abducted 56 days ago.
Describing the mission as a major success by Nigeria’s security agencies, Onanuga said the operation ended without any concessions to the kidnappers.
“Updated: in the course of the rescue operation, eight of the kidnappers were arrested and are now in DSS custody, while some of them were neutralised.”

“There was no quid pro quo in the rescue as one of the terrorists, a kingpin, that the kidnappers demanded his release, is being prosecuted for his atrocities,” he said.
Onanuga added that more details of the operation would be made public by the relevant security agencies.
“The security agencies will give full account soon,” he said.
Earlier, the presidential spokesman had announced the successful rescue of all the victims, writing: “Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies.”
