ANTIPOLO—Geo Chiu registered career-highs in points and rebounds on Friday to help Terrafirma start off its PBA Governors’ Cup on a winning note at the Ynares Center.
The impression after his 19-point, 23-rebound output in the Dyip’s 113-100 mastery of the Titan Ultra Giant Risers is that the 6-foot-9 rookie is set for bigger things in his second conference in the big league.

Chiu, however, was quick to dispel that.

“Today was just my day, I guess,” Tiu humbly declared in Filipino. “My teammates will have days like the one I just had.”
Chiu spent his first conference, the Commissioner’s Cup, getting his feet wet against some of the best local big men and imports of unlimited height. It was a beneficial stint for the center out of Ateneo.
And he hopes to see that translate into victories, especially with a Terrafirma side that underwent changes by unloading top scorer Jerrick Ahanmisi and forward Paolo Hernandez to powerhouse San Miguel Beer.

“I guess I have to be more patient and keep trusting myself, as what coach Ronald [Tubid] keeps preaching,” said Chiu.
Terrafirma also opened with a win in the last conference, and Tubid was quick to remind everyone that getting the Group A lead this early is not something to celebrate.
“The team is still improving, growing,” Tubid, a former hardnosed guard who has seen his share of action, said in Filipino. “We need to improve every game, in every practice. We need to compete.”

Chiu got some help from import Justin Strings, who scored 25 points that went with 16 rebounds, while rookie JM Bravo and sophomore Didat Hanapi added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Terrafirma also got 13 points from Juami Tiongson, the returning guard who San Miguel dealt back in order to complete the Ahanmisi deal.
Though 4-of-13 from the field, Tiongson is seen as someone who could ably fill the leadership role this time, compared to when he starred in the Dyip’s dream playoff run back in the 2024 Philippine Cup.
Titan Ultra lost its opener, playing sans import Tirell Brown, who failed to secure a clearance before the game. Aris Dionisio scored 21 to lead all Giant Risers scorers.
Joshua Munzon, whose contract was automatically extended for the rest of the season amid trade rumors, added 15.
