
MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – New school buildings will soon rise across Cebu as the provincial government moves to address the province’s shortage of learning facilities.
The Cebu Provincial Government announced on Friday, July 10, that it had secured P200 million in funding after Governor Pamela Baricuatro signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Education (DepEd) for the implementation of the Basic Education Facilities Program (BEFP).
Under the agreement, Cebu Province will receive P200 million in financial assistance from DepEd for the construction of additional school buildings in various parts of the province.

The MOA signing, held at the DepEd Central Office in Makati City, was attended by Education Secretary Sonny Angara, DepEd Assistant Secretary Aurelio Paulo R. Bartolome, and Undersecretary Peter Irving Corvera.
School infrastructure
In an advisory, the Cebu Provincial Government said the province was among the beneficiaries of the Marcos administration’s initiative to improve public school infrastructure.

The program aims to help address the country’s backlog of 145,000 classrooms and is funded under the 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA) through the Basic Education Facilities Program.
Under the agreement, the Department of Education (DepEd) will oversee the program’s technical standards and fund allocation, while the Cebu Provincial Government will handle the procurement and construction of the new school buildings to help ease the province’s shortage of learning facilities.
