One person has died and three others have been taken to hospital after they were pulled unresponsive from a Mount Gambier home in South Australia's south-east earlier this morning.
The Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) was called to the home on Penola Road just before 9am, initiating a HAZMAT response because of concerns about potentially hazardous gas.
On arrival, firefighters found "four unresponsive occupants" in a back room, all of whom were taken outside into the care of paramedics.
Police have since confirmed that one of the four people has died.
"Sadly one occupant died at the scene," police said in a statement.
"Three further occupants were taken to hospital for treatment."
Police said the investigation was in its early stages but that the incident was not believed to be suspicious.
Despite the initial report, gas was not detected at the property.
The MFS said eight firefighters attended the property, and that crews wore breathing apparatus when they entered the home.
"Atmospheric detectors detected no gas within the premises but firefighters ventilated the property as a precautionary measure," an MFS spokesperson said.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
