Viva Artists Agency gave a glimpse of Atasha Muhlach’s participation during the audition process for the titular role in “Bongga Ka, ’Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical,” amid some netizens’ seeming doubt about the actress-TV host’s casting.
Speculations on how Atasha landed the role made the rounds on social media after singer Rachel Libres said she attended the two-day casting process and claimed she did not see the former during both days.
“No hate po. Respectfully, I was there during the two-day casting process, and I didn’t see Atasha in either day’s auditions. Kaya sana huwag din nating i-disregard ang effort at hirap ng lahat ng pumila, naghintay, kumanta, at sumayaw para mabigyan ng pagkakataon. Kung may nangyaring hiwalay na audition o private casting, ibang usapan na iyon. Pero base sa mismong open auditions na dinaluhan ko, wala siya roon,” said Libres.

While Atasha — daughter of celebrity couple Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzalez-Muhlach — did not publicly comment on the matter, her talent management company incidentally shared on its Instagram page on Friday, July 10, a clip of the younger actress auditioning for the musical.

Aside from Viva, the musical director Chris Millado and Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) president Melvin Lee also earlier attested to Atasha’s participation in the audition process.
During a recent media conference, Atasha gave the public a first look at her performance as Annie Batungbakal — the character made popular by Hotdog’s hit 1979 song and immortalized by late Superstar and National Artist Nora Aunor through her film of the same name.
“To be honest, it took a lot of studying, a lot of research, and of course listening to the Hotdog songs,” Atasha said. “Her whole storyline is in the song ‘Annie Batungbakal.’ Because of Hotdog and their classic songs, I have the opportunity to paint my own version of Annie Batungbakal.”
“For me, it’s such a full-circle moment. It’s very humbling and heartwarming, and I’m so grateful because this is an opportunity I don’t want to take for granted,” she added. /ra
