Japan has opened enrollment for the inaugural intake of a new school designed to train professional maids for affluent households.
Maid School Japan was established under the supervision of the Butler Association Japan to provide practical training in high-end domestic service and elite hospitality.
According to the school, the curriculum is not only for aspiring maids but also for professionals in hospitality, tourism, sales, consulting, and executive support, fields where polished communication and strict attention to detail are paramount, according to Japan Today.
The curriculum covers professional conduct, elite etiquette, advanced communication, luxury home cleaning, table setting, meal service, confidentiality obligations, household management, garment and valuables care, VIP relations, and international hospitality standards, as announced by the association on its website.
Students can enroll in the full course to earn a certificate of completion or select individual modules based on their interests.
Applicants must be at least 20 years old, but no prior experience in domestic service or hospitality is required. The program welcomes both male and female applicants.
The inaugural term is scheduled to run from July 28 to Sept. 3, 2026. To accommodate working professionals, classes will be held online via Zoom on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Tuition for the full 12-module program is 290,000 yen (US$2,000), while standalone classes are priced at 29,000 yen.
Admission is highly selective, with capacity strictly capped at 20 students for the term. Applications are being accepted through the Butler Association Japan’s official website.
