Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has strong potential to become a major player in palm oil-based bioenergy through innovation, downstream processing, and international cooperation with Russia and countries across the Eurasian region, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said.
"Through innovation, downstream processing, and international cooperation, we want the palm oil industry to serve not only as a driver of the national economy but also as part of the solution for energy security and sustainable industrial development," the minister said in a statement on Saturday.
On July 7, Indonesia participated in the "Palm Oil and the Future of Sustainable Energy" forum during the INNOPROM 2026 industrial exhibition in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
According to Kartasasmita, Indonesia's participation reflected the government's commitment to expanding market access for domestic industries through stronger global partnerships.
Amid growing global demand for cleaner energy, he said Indonesia is offering its experience and industrial capacity in developing palm oil-based bioenergy as a mutually beneficial area of cooperation.
Director General of Industrial Resilience, Zoning, and International Industrial Access at the ministry, Tri Supondy, said the forum provided an important platform to showcase the progress of Indonesia's palm oil industry.
As the world's largest producer of palm oil, Indonesia used the forum to demonstrate its industrial readiness to support the global energy transition. One of the key initiatives presented was the mandatory B50 biodiesel program, which took effect in July 2026.
Indonesia also highlighted a range of policies supporting the sustainability of its palm oil industry, including smallholder plantation replanting programs, human resource development, and advances in biodiesel technology.
The government continues to strengthen the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification system to ensure that national palm oil production meets international sustainability standards and remains competitive in global markets.
