RODRIGUEZ, Rizal—Coach Yeng Guiao could only lament the brutal way Rain or Shine started its campaign in the 2026 PBA Governors’ Cup.
The Elasto Painters fell to the Blackwater Bossing, 131-108, on Saturday at Ynares Center Montalban here after they were caught off guard by the hot start of Bossing import Kentrell Barkley.

Barkley fired 18 of his 29 points in the first quarter, which saw Blackwater take the fight out of Rain or Shine.

“I’m disappointed,” Guiao said. “Not only because we lost, it’s the way we lost. The lead was too big. We could only wish that it was a close game so that you could yourself a chance to win.
“That would have been okay, but we had no chance of winning the game until the end,” added Guiao.
The result was a role reversal of what transpired in the Commissioner’s Cup when Rain or Shine pummeled Blackwater by 56 points, setting a record for the most lopsided game in PBA history.

It wasn’t as big as that margin, but it was still a blowout, this time at Rain or Shine’s expense.
“I actually don’t remember [the 56-point win],” Guiao said, smiling. “But the pace of the game favored them. We’re the team that’s supposed to be getting out in transition and running our fast game. But they got ahead of us in that area.
“That’s part of it. And they were shooting the ball well. We were turning the ball over too many times in the first quarter and first half. You’re not going to win games if you’re turning the ball that many times.”
