Nasarawa Amazons FC of Lafia have won the 2026 President Federation Cup after defeating Heartland Queens of Owerri 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The final match, played at the Asaba Stadium in Delta State, saw the Lafia Landladies clinch their third Federation Cup title in the club’s history after a tense shootout.
Nasarawa Amazons FC, popularly known as the “Solid Babes,” the Lafia-based side previously won the prestigious national title in 2005 for their first triumph and again in 2019 for their second.
They also reached the final in 2025 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena but narrowly lost to Rivers Angels 4-2 on penalties.
The latest victory reaffirms Nasarawa Amazons as one of Nigeria’s most consistent powerhouses in women’s football.
Speaking shortly after the match, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Yakubu Kwanta, said Governor Abdullahi Sule monitored the game and spoke directly with the players.
“It’s as if the Governor of Nasarawa State was practically there. And I want to assure you that had it been His Excellency is within the corridor of this country, he would be practically here. He’s far away in Texas, and we have been talking with him since the beginning of this game to the end. He equally spoke with the players in the dressing room and also congratulated us after the match,” Kwanta said.
The Commissioner described Governor Sule as the “most loving sports governor in this country,” noting that his support has been a major boost to sports development in the state.
Kwanta also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the support from the federal administration has given the state government the moral booster to advance sports in Nasarawa.
“We return all glory to God Almighty, and also appreciate His Excellency, the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that is renewing our hope on a daily basis,” he said.
On what the third Federation Cup title means for the state, Kwanta attributed the success to hard work and commitment, while commending the technical crew and the club chairman.
