United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer teased his Norwegian counterpart after England beat Norway in a World Cup game on Saturday.
“Norway 1 – 2 Jude Bellingham. @JonasGahrStore, your boys took one hell of beating,” the outgoing prime minister wrote in a social media post.
Bellingham, a midfielder on the England national team, scored both goals for England in the Saturday match in Miami. Fans sang the iconic Beatles song “Hey Jude” to the soccer player following England’s win.
Starmer, who announced his resignation from Britain’s top elected office last month, is an avid fan of the sport.
Former English football player David Beckham also celebrated the team’s win in an Instagram post.
“What a moment in miami, I’m so proud of the team tonight reaching the Semi final of the World Cup and to celebrate with my family was so special… Thank you @england for giving our country these moments,” he wrote alongside a photo of him and his family at the game.
England will now proceed to the semi-finals round of this tournament, where they will face the winner of the match between Argentina and Switzerland. The team has not played in a World Cup final since 1966.
