
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian police have arrested nine individuals suspected of involvement in the killing of three police officers during a drug raid that turned deadly in Katingan District, Central Kalimantan, earlier this month.
The arrests were confirmed by the Director for Drug Crimes of the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim), Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, in a press statement on Saturday.
According to Santoso, the nine suspects were arrested in separate locations in Central Kalimantan and East Kalimantan provinces between July 3 and July 8.
He detailed the suspects' initials and their alleged roles in the attack. BO, identified as a drug dealer, is accused of opening fire on the officers with firearms and inciting nearby residents to join the assault.
Suspects SD, LLP, PI, and RL were allegedly involved in the shooting and supplied firearms to the drug syndicate. Meanwhile, suspect IMP, also known as RB, is accused of disposing of the officers' bodies in a river after the killings.
NM and ARS, alias YD, were also accused of provoking nearby residents to attack the officers.
Police also arrested a female suspect identified by the initials DN, although her alleged role in the attack was not disclosed.
Police have also placed three additional suspects on the wanted list: PA, alias DY, who allegedly stabbed the officers and helped dump their bodies; DR, alias IYS, who is also accused of stabbing the officers; and IL, who allegedly supplied weapons to the drug syndicate and participated in the attack on the officers.
Three officers from Katingan District Police in Central Kalimantan were killed during a raid on a drug syndicate in Tumbang Kalemei Village in the early hours of Thursday (July 2).
According to Katingan Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dodik Hartono, the operation initially proceeded as planned, with officers successfully arresting a suspect.
However, the situation escalated when the suspect's family members attacked the officers with weapons.
The confrontation prompted nearby residents to join the assault, and the officers were rescued only after reinforcements arrived.
The three officers killed at the scene were identified as Second Inspector Sumariyanto, First Adjunct Inspector Yudhi Perdana Putra, and First Brigadier Nopandri Ramadhan; all received posthumous promotions.
