MANILA, Philippines—NLEX survived a thriller against Terrafirma, 101-100, in the PBA Governors’ Cup at Ynares Sports Center in Montalban on Sunday.
The Road Warriors squandered a 23-point lead before hanging on to squeak past the Dyip for a 2-0 start in Group A.

“I thought they (Dyip) played great. I have to do a better job. I don’t think I did a very good job in the fourth quarter when I put the team in a position where Terrafirma gave us issues,” coach Jimmy Alapag said.

NLEX looked well on its way to a blowout victory up, 90-67, heading into the final frame and was still ahead 101-91 with 4:15 remaining before Terrafirma threatened to steal the game down the stretch.
The Dyip went on a 9-0 run capped by a Justin Strings basket to pull within one with 42.7 seconds remaining, but missed what could’ve been the game-winning basket in the dying seconds.

Daequan Jones scored 30 for the Road Warriors, while Schonny Winston added 13.
Mav Ahanmisi and Juami Tiongson finished with 19 points each in the Terrafirma loss. Strings registered a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds.
