
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia extends its deepest condolences to Qatar's government and people on the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar during the 1995-2013 period.
"The government of the Republic of Indonesia extends its deepest condolences on the passing of His Highness, the Father Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani," Indonesia's Foreign Ministry stated on social media X on Sunday.
Indonesia "conveys its heartfelt sympathies" to Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Al Thani royal family, and the government and people in Qatar "during this time of profound sorrow," the Foreign Ministry stated.
Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir of Qatar, who ruled the state for 18 years and is the father of the country's current emir, died on Sunday at the age of 74, the Qatari emir's office said.
"With hearts steadfast in faith in God's decree and destiny, the Amiri Diwan [chancellery] mourns the great loss to the nation of the late—may God have mercy on him—His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away this morning … at the age of nearly 74 years," the office said on X, as reported by Sputnik.
Al Thani was considered the founder of modern Qatar and continued to enjoy influence and love in the country even after handing over power to his son.
Meanwhile, Qatari authorities have declared a four-day period of national mourning following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 75, the Emir's office said.
"A general mourning period is declared across all corners of the state for Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for four days, beginning today," the office said on X.
The funeral, in accordance with Islamic tradition, is to be held on Sunday at a cemetery in Lusail City following the sunset prayer service.
Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will receive condolences from heads of state, members of ruling families, and citizens from July 13-15.
