Rosie O'Donnell Reveals She Quit Her Talk Show After Earning $100 Million
Rosie O’Donnell is sharing insight into her relationship with her daughter.
One month after the League of Their Own star visited her daughter Chelsea Belle O’Donnell in prison, she detailed the emotional reunion, revealing it was the longest conversation she's had with the 28-year-old in a decade.
"[It] was the first conversation I’ve had with her in 10 years that lasted more than 25 minutes," Rosie told Page Six in an interview published July 12. "The first time that I saw her in a consistent way was the four hours in the prison."
Yet, due to a tornado warning, the mother-daughter visit was cut short. According to Rosie, this brought Chelsea—who is serving time at Taycheedah Correctional Institution in Wisconsin after her probation was revoked for multiple felony charges—to tears.
And her daughter's emotional reaction wasn't lost on The View alum, who shared that it was the "first time I’ve seen an empathetic emotion from her."
"She’s growing up," Rosie added, "and I hope that her future is brighter than this past decade has been.”
And while the Now and Then actress described addiction as the "rollercoaster" that "never ends" in her post, she shared a positive update following the visit.
In fact, Rosie—who adopted Chelsea in 1997 with Kelly—revealed her daughter has been sober for "almost two years now." revealed Chelsea has been sober for "almost two years now."
"That’s a very big part," she continued to Page Six. "She was born addicted, and when I was adopting, I thought, 'Well, love can cure everything,' but I don’t know that that’s true."
And the talk show host—who is also mom to Parker O’Donnell, 31, Blake O’Donnell, 26, and Vivienne O’Donnell, 23, with Kelli, as well as Clay O’Donnell, 13, with her late ex-wife Michelle Rounds—even turned to her eldest daughter for her thoughts on her upcoming one-woman show, which will focus on their complicated relationship.
"I've asked for Chelsea's input," Rosie shared. "I sent it to her and said, 'I'd really love to get you—your voice heard and just now what I perceive to be your voice and I think she's ready to do that now."
