The Delta State Police Command has demoted two of its officers, identified as Inspector Augustine Jeremiah and Corporal Miracle Ehirim, caught in a viral video extorting money from motorists in the state.
The officers attached to C Division Asaba were captured in the viral video receiving money from a motorist through a Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal within the station on January 13, 2026.
Daily Trust reports that Inspector Augustine Jeremiah was demoted from the rank of Inspector to Sergeant while Corporal Miracle Ehirim also demoted to Constable.
A statement by the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, upheld the findings of the orderly room trial of the offices.
According to him, the officers were found guilty of disobedience to lawful order, extortion and discreditable conduct, contrary to the provisions of the Police Act.
