MANILA, Philippines – The Senate impeachment court resumes the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday as proceeding enter their second week, with both senator-judges and the House prosecution panel pushing for a faster, more transparent process.
The Senate has launched a dedicated impeachment portal on its website where public can access pleadings, evidence, court issuances, and official records submitted by both sides, allowing Filipinos to closely monitor the historic proceedings.
The prosecution is expected to continue presenting evidence under Article IV, which accuses Duterte of making grave threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Last week, the prosecution presented its first witness, NBI Senior Agent John Mark Calilung, who authenticated video recordings and digital evidence related to Duterte’s Nov. 23, 2024 remarks.
NBI Regional Director Jeremy Lotoc is expected to testify Monday on the findings of the bureau’s investigation into Duterte’s alleged threats.
