
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck off a coastal town in Masbate on Monday morning, state seismologists said.
The tectonic earthquake occurred 40 kilometers southwest of Claveria town at 8:53 a.m., with a shallow depth of seven kilometers, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said instrumental intensities were recorded in the following areas:

Intensity III (weak) – Castilla, Donsol, and Sorsogon City

Instrumental intensity refers to the ground shaking measured by intensity meters in and around the epicentral area, while felt intensity is the ground shaking actually experienced and reported by people through the Phivolcs Earthquake Intensity Scale.
Meanwhile, the earthquake is not expected to cause damage or trigger aftershocks. /mcm
