MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – A 27-year-old motorcycle rider was killed after colliding with a pickup truck along the Cebu Transcentral Highway in Barangay Cantipla, Cebu City, on Sunday, July 12, police said.
The victim, a resident of Balamban town, died before reaching the hospital.
The 42-year-old pickup truck driver, a resident of Consolacion, was unhurt, according to the Cebu City Police Office Traffic Enforcement Unit (CCPO TEU).

How the crash happened
Police said the victim was traveling downhill toward Balamban town when he failed to stay in his lane while negotiating a curve.
He reportedly swerved into the opposite lane, where the pickup truck was traveling uphill toward Cebu City.

According to the TEU, the front of the motorcycle struck the front left portion of the pickup truck.
The impact threw the victim off the motorcycle, which was dragged several meters from the point of collision, police added.
In a report, police said the impact of the collision caused the pickup truck’s airbag to deploy, temporarily obstructing the driver’s view and preventing him from immediately applying the brakes after the crash.
The victim was rushed to a hospital in the city but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, police added.
Reckless driving cited
In its report, the TEU said the victim’s failure to stay in his lane constituted a violation of Section 48 of Republic Act No. 4136, the reckless driving provision of the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
Police said the pickup truck driver was cleared of liability and will not face charges in connection with the incident.
Both vehicles sustained damage in the collision, with the motorcycle suffering extensive damage, police added.
The TEU said the final assessment of the damage, including any possible claims, has yet to be determined pending further evaluation.
As of Monday, July 13, the victim’s remains had been turned over to his family.
