The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that they have successful uploaded names of their presidential, running mate and National Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Portal.
This was disclosed by Abdulrahman Mohammed, the National Chairman of the party in a statement on Sunday.
The PDP has been embroiled in leadership crisis since the conduct of the National Convention of the party in Ibadan last year, leading to the division of the party into faction.
However, following the Supreme Court judgement that nullified the convention, the Independent National Electoral Commission has recognised the Abdulrahman Mohammed led leadership.
According to the statement, the National Chairman said he was pleased to inform all PDP members and Nigerians that the Party, under his leadership, “has successfully uploaded the names of our Presidential Candidate, his Running Mate, and our National Assembly candidates onto the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal,” he said.
Daily Trust gathered that the PDP has settled for Babangida Umaru as the Vice Presidential candidate of the party to Senator Sandy Onor.
Umaru is the National Vice Chairman (North East) of the Wike backed PDP.
However, when Daily Trust contacted the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed to confirm the development, he declined, saying the party will soon make an official statement on matter.
But, in an earlier statement, the party chairman said the upload was a clear demonstration of their commitment to the promise that, under his leadership, the PDP will fully participate in the 2027 General Elections. “Today, we have taken another decisive step towards fulfilling that promise,” he added.
The PDP chairman said the party was awaiting the completion of the upload of its governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates and congratulated members of the party on the completion of the process.
“As we await the conclusion of the upload of our Governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates, I, on behalf of the National Working Committee of our Party, extend my heartfelt congratulations to all PDP members across Nigeria and around the world,” he said.
