Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has fully completed construction of 15,845 Red and White Village Cooperatives, with the government preparing to launch their operations in August as part of a nationwide drive to strengthen rural economies.
Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono said on Sunday that the completed cooperatives include fully finished buildings, warehouses, retail outlets, and supporting equipment, while another 19,539 cooperatives remain under construction.
A total of about 83,000 Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) have also completed their legal incorporation process, he said during the 79th National Cooperatives Day celebration at Indonesia Arena in Jakarta.
"Around 83,000 Red and White Village Cooperatives have completed their legal registration. Meanwhile, 15,845 have reached 100 percent completion, including physical buildings, warehouses, outlets, and supporting equipment," Ferry said.
The minister said the 19,539 cooperatives currently under construction are part of roughly 35,000 projects being developed nationwide.
Once training for cooperative managers concludes in early August, the government will assign them to cooperatives whose physical facilities have been completed to begin operational activities.
Ferry also asked President Prabowo Subianto to officially inaugurate the operations of the cooperatives next month.
"With your permission, Mr. President, we hope you will inaugurate the operational launch of the Red and White Village Cooperatives, God willing, in August," he said.
President Prabowo attended the National Cooperatives Day event alongside ministers from the Red and White Cabinet.
The government aims to have 40,000 Red and White Village Cooperatives operating by the end of 2026 as part of its strategy to strengthen village-based economic development.
Deputy Minister of Cooperatives Farida Farichah said the government is focusing not only on completing physical infrastructure but also on preparing professional managers to operate the cooperatives.
She said prospective managers are receiving training on cooperative governance, business management, and public service to ensure the cooperatives operate effectively.
The manager training program is scheduled to run from July 17 to July 31, 2026, ahead of the planned nationwide operational rollout in August.
