Fery ready for 'attention' like Raducanu after Wimbledon run

Arthur Fery admits he might be plunged into the media spotlight in a similar manner to Emma Raducanu following his fairy-tale run at Wimbledon.

The 24-year-old, who received a Wild Card entry to the tournament, defeated Zizou Bergs, Grigor Dimitrov and Flavio Cobolli before a semi-final loss at the hands of French Open champion Alexander Zverev.

Fery has surged up to No 36 in the world after entering as No 114 with only two Grand Slam victories to his name and recognises that his profile has skyrocketed, just as Raducanu's did after her US Open triumph in 2021.

"Yes, even already a little bit during the tournament I was thinking of life after and how I was going to handle all that because we've seen it with people who've broken through in that manner before," Fery told Sky News' Jacquie Beltrao.

"With Emma obviously, Emma won a Slam and I didn't but there was still a lot of media attention.

"It is going to be really important to handle that - the expectation from myself and also the public."

Any run in a Slam brings with it new opportunities and Fery can now compete at the US Open, which is live on Sky Sports from Flushing Meadows, starting on August 30.

The new British No 1 is ready for more time in the media glare as he competes against the top players in tennis.

"It means I can play the top players week in week out and compare myself to them and keep working on my tennis," said Fery.

"I am going to have to get accustomed to the full life of tour with more media attention and all of that but I think I'm ready for it.

"It is going to be a first as well playing the US Open. I didn't even play qualifiers last year so it's going be a great experience."

Fery will acquire even more experience of performing on the sport's biggest stages after revealing how he coped with his maiden appearance on Wimbledon's iconic arena.

"I was definitely nervous walking onto Centre Court for the first time and playing great great players but it was healthy nerves," he said.

"It meant I cared and that I wanted to do really the best I could.

"So, playing in front of the Queen, playing in front of Kate [Middleton] and Roger [Federer] it was all new to me, but it was good nerves."
