CEBU CITY, Philippines — Another yellow alert has been issued for the Visayas grid on Monday, July 13 as several of the largest coal-fired power plants in the region remain offline and demand continues to surge.
Monday’s yellow alert will cover the peak hours from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
Under a yellow alert, the grid faces increased risk of rotational brownouts should demand spike or another power plant undergoes unscheduled shutdown.

Forced outages
Around 20 power plants in the Visayas have been under forced outages since 2021 including the two units of Therma Visayas Inc. (TVI) and more recently, the Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC).
The Unit 3 of PEDC also became isolated after the Cebu-Iloilo PED kilovolt line tripped.
