Marcoleta declared ‘fit to travel’ after pneumonia treatment – PNP

MANILA — Senator Rodante Marcoleta has been declared “fit to travel” but will stay under Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNPGH) custody until he finishes his antibiotic treatment for mild pneumonia, police officials announced Monday.

Lt. Col. Benaly Bayani, the PNPGH Internal Medicine chief, stated that the hospital will await and follow specific directives from the Sandiganbayan regarding Marcoleta’s transport.

“Yung ano lang po namin doon sa fit to travel is yung completion nung kanyang antibiotics; regarding lang po doon sa napag-usapan natin. So yung completion ng antibiotics niya is on July 15, so hanggang doon lang po yun (The only thing we have in terms of being fit to travel is the completion of his antibiotics; just regarding what we discussed. So the completion of his antibiotics is on July 15, so that’s all it will be until then),” Bayani told reporters in a briefing held in front of PNPGH in Camp Crame.

“Hindi naman napag-usapan yun regarding sa clearance na ilalabas ng PNPGH. Basta ang nandoon lang po sa aming recommendation is that the completion of antibiotics. After that anytime po kung sasabihin na po sa amin, pwede naman po naming i-transfer si Senator Marcoleta (We didn’t discuss anything regarding the clearance that will be issued by the PNPGH. What is only in our recommendation is that the completion of antibiotics. After that, anytime we are told, we can transfer Senator Marcoleta),” she added.

Marcoleta medical test results completed

Bayani further said that all medical test results of Marcoleta are now complete and were included in their report.

Marcoleta is in the custody of the PNP after his arrest for a non-bailable plunder case filed by the Office of the Ombudsman over undeclared campaign donations.

He voluntarily appeared in Sandiganbayan on July 6 as he filed a motion to quash in relation to the plunder and indirect bribery case filed against him and his co-accused, former congressman Mike Defensor and businessmen Joseph Espiritu and Aristotle Viray. (PNA)
