ILOILO CITY — Weather conditions in Western Visayas are expected to improve this week; however, rain showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoons and evenings, are still likely, according to the latest five-day regional weather outlook issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Monday.
The forecast, which covers July 13 to 17, indicates that Iloilo, Guimaras, Capiz, Aklan, and Antique will generally experience “partly cloudy to cloudy skies” with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, marking an improvement from the widespread heavy rains brought by the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat) over the weekend.

Pagasa said light to moderate southwesterly to southerly winds will prevail throughout the forecast period. Coastal waters are expected to remain slight to moderate, generally favorable for most small seacraft, although localized thunderstorms may still trigger rough sea conditions.
The improving weather follows several days of flooding, landslides, and evacuations across Western Visayas as Habagat, enhanced by Tropical Storm Inday (international name: Bavi), affected thousands of families and disrupted classes, sea travel, and government operations.
Despite the improved outlook, Pagasa urged residents, particularly those in flood- and landslide-prone areas, to remain vigilant, as localized thunderstorms could still bring sudden heavy rains, lightning, and strong winds.
The state weather bureau also advised the public to continue monitoring official weather bulletins and advisories, noting that conditions may change depending on the behavior of the southwest monsoon and other developing weather systems./coa
