Jakarta (ANTARA) - The State Logistics Agency (Bulog) is pushing for rice export agreements with Malaysia and Singapore by pursuing price certainty and ensuring trade cooperation that benefits farmers, the country, and national export sustainability.
Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said his office will follow up on the direction of the National Food Agency head and Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman to pursue rice export opportunities to the two countries through further technical discussions.
"We will immediately follow up on the Minister of Agriculture's order to pursue the initiative in Malaysia and Singapore to follow up on price certainty and other matters," Ramdhani noted on Monday.
Bulog is currently awaiting the Malaysian government's readiness to accept the visit.
According to Ramdhani, Bulog is coordinating with both countries to confirm their readiness for negotiations, hoping to reach an agreement that provides price certainty and benefits all parties.
"We have yet to visit because the timing has not yet been finalized. We are continuing coordination so negotiations can proceed and provide certainty on the price," he continued.
He added that the timing of Malaysia's participation depends on its internal processes, so Bulog is waiting while continuing to strengthen communication to advance the rice export agreement.
On the other side, Ramdhani stressed that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed that export prices must protect farmers' interests while ensuring reasonable returns and supporting the national economy.
Previously, Ramdhani confirmed that negotiations over Indonesia's planned export of 200,000 tons of rice to Malaysia are still focused on pricing.
Bulog and officials from the Ministry of Agriculture plan to visit Sarawak, Malaysia, to discuss the proposed rice exports.
In addition to Malaysia, Indonesia is also planning to export 10,000 tons of rice to Singapore. The proposal was discussed during a bilateral meeting between Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman and Singapore's Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu at the Ministry of Agriculture office in Jakarta on June 29.
