A stray cat that lost a hind leg after being hit by a vehicle has found a new home with the Municipal Police of Paços de Ferreira, in the north of Portugal.
The cat was rescued by the municipality’s veterinary services after suffering severe injuries in a road accident. Veterinarians were forced to amputate one of her back legs, but she made what officials described as a remarkable recovery.
That recovery caught the attention of the municipal police, who decided to adopt her.
“She lost a leg but gained a home with the municipal police,” the veterinary services wrote in a post on social media on Friday, July 10, sharing a photo of the cat wearing an (AI-generated) miniature municipal police uniform.
The municipality said the cat has now become “a true member of the family”, living at the police station alongside the officers who adopted her.
Veterinary services described her as “a very special” cat whose “remarkable recovery revealed her strength and gentle nature”.
They also praised the municipal police for giving the animal a second chance.
“Our sincere thanks to the municipal police for this adoption, for this act of responsibility and compassion, which highlights the importance of adopting and creating opportunities for animals with special needs,” the municipal veterinary services said. “It is an inspiring example of how a second chance can transform lives.”
