SANTIAGO CITY – A police officer faced social media backlash after a car dashboard camera caught her wearing an illegal “nutshell helmet” on July 11.
Under Republic Act No. 10054 (a 2009 law requiring motorcycle riders to wear standard protective helmets), motorcycle riders are allowed to use only half-face, full-face and modular helmets. The law states, “motorcycle riders, including drivers and back riders, shall at all times wear standard protective motorcycle helmets while driving, whether long or short drives, in any type of road and highway.”
Police Col. Edith Narag, Santiago City police director, said in a public statement that they will not condone the unauthorized nutshell helmet used by the police officer in the video.
