Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) is promoting stronger cooperatives to expand economic opportunities for migrant workers and their families through sustainable empowerment programs, Minister Mukhtarudin said on Sunday.
Mukhtarudin made the remarks during the 79th National Cooperative Day celebration, attended by President Prabowo Subianto at Indonesia Arena in Jakarta.
"Strengthening cooperatives will create more economic opportunities for communities, including Indonesian migrant workers and their families, through sustainable empowerment programs," he said.
He said this year's National Cooperative Day theme, "Empowered Cooperatives, Prosperous Indonesia," reflects the spirit of cooperation underpinning the country's cooperative movement.
Mukhtarudin said he supports the government's efforts to strengthen cooperatives as a driver of the people's economy.
He said the principles of solidarity, mutual cooperation and self-reliance align with the ministry's mission to empower migrant workers and their families.
He added that the approach supports community-based economic programs to help returning migrant workers build businesses and become financially independent.
"Cooperatives are a pillar of the nation's economic resilience, built on the principle of family," Mukhtarudin said.
"We want returning migrant workers to have access to a strong and productive economic ecosystem that supports their families' well-being and contributes to Golden Indonesia 2045," he said.
Mukhtarudin said cooperatives should play a greater role in supporting inclusive economic growth and advancing the country's long-term development goals.
He said the ministry would continue working with the Cooperatives Ministry and other stakeholders to integrate cooperatives into economic protection and empowerment programs for migrant workers nationwide.
