Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - Indonesia's education minister said the 2026-2027 school orientation program is designed to create safe, inclusive and welcoming learning environments while promoting character development and preventing bullying, violence and hazing.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti made the remarks after opening the Friendly School Orientation Period at State Vocational High School 2 Singosari on Monday.
"The Friendly School Orientation Period is a step toward making schools safe and welcoming social, intellectual, spiritual and physical environments for all students," Mu'ti said.
He said a safe and supportive environment would strengthen schools' role as a second home where students from diverse backgrounds can learn together.
Mu'ti said the orientation program is not only intended to introduce students to school life but also to build character and humanitarian values.
He said the program must be free from verbal abuse, corporal punishment and hazing.
"We want new students to develop respect, cooperation and a spirit of helping one another while pursuing their aspirations," he said.
The ministry has also aligned the 2026-2027 orientation program with the Safe, Healthy, Clean and Beautiful Indonesia (ASRI) movement.
Mu'ti urged teachers to use the orientation period to identify new students' talents and interests.
He also called on regional education offices to increase awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and online gambling.
"The orientation should be conducted in an enjoyable way that ensures every student feels included, safe and comfortable," he said.
