A Hong Kong court has ordered an Italian chef to serve 90 hours of community service and suspended his driving licence for a year after he admitted drink-driving and speeding at more than 10 times the limit on a road leading to a landfill.
Angelo Vecchio, 43, appeared at Kwun Tong Court on Monday to learn his sentence for dangerous driving on Wan Po Road towards Tseung Kwan O Landfill on the night of December 22, 2025.
Court documents showed that the chef’s car collided with two concrete barriers near the entrance of the landfill. Evidence showed that he was driving at 111 to 141km/h, exceeding the road’s speed limit of 10km/h.
Officers who arrived at the scene administered a screening breath test on Vecchio and found that his alcohol level was three times the prescribed limit.
Vecchio’s lawyer told Magistrate Lau Suk-han that the offence arose from “marital issues”.
The counsel asked the court to impose a short community service period as the chef already had “brutally long working hours” and hoped to have more time to spend with his family.
