Thousands of motorcyclists from across Portugal and beyond will descend on Faro this week as the 44th Faro Motorcycle Rally gets underway from Thursday, July 16, to Sunday, July 19.
Organised by the Moto Clube de Faro, the annual event has grown into one of Europe’s best-known motorcycle rallies, attracting around 20,000 participants each year by combining live music, custom bike displays and entertainment with the unique atmosphere that has made it a fixture on the international biking calendar.
This year’s headline act is legendary British reggae band UB40, who will take to the main stage on Saturday, July 18, following a performance by Portuguese rock icon Rui Veloso.
The four-day programme opens on Thursday with performances by GNTK, Xutos & Pontapés and David Antunes.
On Friday, Spanish rock band Mojinos Escozios will perform alongside Portuguese acts UHF and HMB, before Saturday’s headline performances. Entertainment continues throughout the weekend across several stages.
Beyond the concerts, visitors can enjoy the popular Bike Show, showcasing some of the most impressive customised motorcycles, as well as the Oasis Stage, a dedicated children’s area known as the Bar dos Miúdos, and a programme of activities extending into Faro city centre.
A stage will once again be set up in the city centre, while a shuttle bus will connect downtown Faro with the rally site at Vale das Almas, near Faro Airport and Praia de Faro. One of the highlights promises to be the rally’s usual Sunday parade, during which participants get on their bikes to drive around the city in a final celebration.
Organisers expect attendance to be similar to last year’s event, with around 20,000 motorcycle enthusiasts travelling from across Europe and beyond. While most visitors are expected to come from Portugal and neighbouring Spain, the rally traditionally attracts bikers from countries including Brazil and the United States.
Moto Clube de Faro president Pedro Baptista said the event remains truly international.
“We end up welcoming people from practically the entire world here at our rally,” he said in April.
To improve safety, organisers will once again implement a dedicated emergency corridor on the access road to Praia de Faro, ensuring emergency vehicles can reach the site if needed.
Four-day passes, priced at €70, remain available online and at the Moto Clube de Faro headquarters. Ticket holders will also be entered into a prize draw to win a trip to Daytona Beach and an Indian motorcycle.
