
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Police operations remain ongoing for the arrest of the remaining suspect in the fatal shooting of a tricycle driver in Dalaguete, southeastern Cebu.
Follow-up operations and intelligence monitoring have been intensified to ensure that all individuals responsible for the crime are brought before the bar of justice.
Police Col. Abubakar Mangelen Jr., director of the Cebu Police Provincial Office, commended the operating teams for their swift and decisive action which led to the arrest of one suspect.

He emphasized that the arrest reflects the their unwavering commitment to public safety and the rule of law.
“The immediate arrest of one of the suspects is a testament to the dedication, vigilance, and excellent coordination of our operating units. While this marks a significant development in the investigation, our work is not yet finished,” he said.
“We remain fully committed to locating and arresting the remaining suspect to ensure that everyone responsible for this crime is held accountable. The Cebu Police Provincial Office will continue to act swiftly and decisively against those who threaten the peace and security of our communities.”
The Cebu Police Provincial Office assured the public that it remains relentless in its anti-crime efforts and encouraged anyone with information that may assist in the arrest of the remaining suspect to coordinate with the nearest police station.
First arrest in Cebu City
The Dalaguete Municipal Police Station arrested the suspect in the deadly shooting of the 58-year-old driver along the national highway in Barangay Tapon, Dalaguete town, on Saturday morning, July 11, 2026.
The suspect was apprehended at around 9:27 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, during a hot pursuit operation conducted in Barangay Lorega, Cebu City, by personnel of the Dalaguete Municipal Police Station in coordination with the Provincial Intelligence Unit.
The arrested individual is now in police custody while a complaint for murder is being prepared for filing before the appropriate court.

The victim, who was also a member of a Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team, sustained a gunshot wound to the back of the head after being attacked by two armed men riding a motorcycle while transporting two passengers.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Responding investigators immediately conducted crime scene processing, CCTV backtracking, witness interviews, and intelligence gathering.
These enabled authorities to establish the identities of the suspects and launch a focused hot pursuit operation that led to the arrest of one in less than two days.
