Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned downstream energy subsidiary PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has completed a massive transoceanic supply mission, taking delivery of 45.9 thousand metric tons of LPG shipped directly from the US to secure Indonesia's domestic energy reserves.
The strategic shipment arrived aboard the company’s specialized Pertamina Gas 1 (PG1) fleet after departing from the global energy hub of Freeport, Texas.
"The arrival of Pertamina Gas 1 is a concrete manifestation of our commitment to ensuring that LPG supplies remain available safely, reliably, and sustainably," Pertamina Patra Niaga VP Corporate Communication Kitty Andhora stated here on Monday.
The large-scale cargo transported by the vessel consisted of around 23 thousand metric tons of propane and 22.8 thousand metric tons of butane.
Kitty explained that procuring energy supplies from various global sources is a strategic part of Pertamina's broader strategy to guarantee national LPG availability through highly integrated supply chain management, covering procurement, maritime transportation, terminal storage, and regional distribution.
"Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to ensure that every segment of the supply chain runs in an integrated manner so that the energy needs of the public and the productive sector remain fulfilled," she added.
The massive LPG shipment carried by Pertamina Gas 1 is equivalent to approximately 15.2 million units of the highly subsidized 3-kilogram LPG cylinders, commonly used by Indonesian households and micro-businesses.
Upon entering Indonesian waters, the cargo will be split and discharged at two strategic hubs: around 26 thousand metric tons will be unloaded at the Sekong LPG Terminal in Banten, while the remaining 19.9 thousand metric tons will be received at the Arun LPG Terminal in Aceh.
The newly arrived supply is expected to significantly strengthen national fuel stocks before being channeled through Pertamina’s domestic infrastructure network to maintain market stability.
The Pertamina Gas 1 originally set sail from the Freeport terminal in Texas on May 29, 2023. The vessel completed its long-haul journey to Indonesia under strict operational safety protocols to ensure zero cargo loss or technical delays.
The successful delivery highlights the company's professional capacity to manage complex global energy logistics, ensuring vital fuel imports arrive on schedule to support the domestic economy.
As the government’s downstream energy arm, Pertamina Patra Niaga confirmed it will continue to optimize its global logistics network, expanding its transport fleet and terminal infrastructure to anchor national energy security amidst volatile global markets.
