
CEBU CITY, Philippines — A 33-year-old man was apprehended after he hacked a 19-year-old man when the latter refused to give him a mango.
The incident took place in Sitio Ugan, Barangay Lutac, City of Naga, on Monday, July 13, 2026, around 1 a.m.
The victim was identified as alias John, 19, a resident of the said place.
Meanwhile, the suspect was identified as alias Matias, 33, a resident of Sitio Sindulan, Barangay Tinaan, City of Naga.

Earlier, around 4 a.m., the City of Naga Police Station received a call from a concerned citizen and reported the incident.
Police personnel were immediately deployed into the area.
A mango matter
Based on the investigation, at around 12:55 a.m., the suspect asked the victim if he could have some mango fruit from a mango tree.
However, the victim refused since the tree was owned by his aunt.
The suspect then got angry and he suddenly hacked at the victim’s right leg.

Fruit shield
The bolo did not hit him after he blocked it using a mango fruit that he had in his pocket.
The victim tried to escape but the suspect pursued and struck him again with his bolo.
The victim tried once again to parry the suspect’s attack, but the bolo hit his left leg.
The victim once more tried to escape and sought help from his relatives while the suspect fled.
The police immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation and successfully arrested the suspect in Purok Talong 3, Barangay South Poblacion, City of Naga.
The suspect will face charges of attempted homicide.
