SHAABAA Season 29: Batch 2004 outplays Batch 2013 to claim Division B third place

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Batch 2004-The Win secured the Division B third-place trophy after defeating Batch 2013-Nest Workspaces, 91-79, in the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Season 29 battle for third place on Sunday, July 12, at the Magis Eagles Arena in Mandaue City.

The Division B third-place game was the lone contest played on Sunday after the Division A and Division C third-place matches ended in forfeiture.

Batch 2004 showcased its balanced offense with five players scoring in double figures, led by Kylle Valmoria, who posted a dominant double-double of 22 points and 12 assists to go along with six rebounds and a steal.

Franco Augusto Te also recorded a double-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists, while Jedd Ryan Go chipped in 21 points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal. The team was mentored by University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers head coach Gary Cortes, a multi-titled coach in the Cesafi.

Christopher Consunji added 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Ervin Lopena contributed 12 points and 11 boards as Batch 2004 pulled away for the comfortable victory.

Despite the loss, Batch 2013 got a game-high 26 points and 13 rebounds from Emman Malazarte. Al John Lim added 19 points, while Nikki Pimentel finished with 13 markers.

Batch 2004 controlled the game from start to finish and built its biggest lead at 22 points, 91-69, late in the fourth quarter.

The winners dominated the paint, outscoring Batch 2013, 36-28. Batch 2013, however, held the edge in second-chance points, 17-9, and fast-break points, 11-2.

Meanwhile, Batch 2014 claimed third place in Division C via forfeiture over Batch 2021-FADI, while Batch 1996-Big Three Pizza also secured the Division A third-place trophy by forfeiture against Batch 2000-Core Pacific.

The best-of-three championship series across all three divisions begins on Saturday, July 19. In Division A, Batch 2003-Cebu Landmasters Inc. will face Batch 2001-ARQ. Division B will feature Batch 2012-Harley Davidson against Batch 2010-Hatch IT Solutions, while Batch 2018-CORE takes on Batch 2015-BRX in the Division C finals.
