CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) on Monday, July 13, clarified that the severed human leg recovered from a creek in Barangay Talamban earlier this month is not connected to the human body parts discovered in other parts of Cebu in recent days.
Col. Franco Rudolf Oriol, CCPO deputy city director for administration said investigators have established that the amputated left leg recovered on July 3 came from a patient who underwent a medical procedure at a public hospital in Cebu City.
Leg improperly disposed
He said the leg had been turned over to the patient’s family after the amputation but was later improperly disposed of, eventually ending up in the creek where it was discovered.
“Nigawas sa atoang imbestigasyon nga katong left leg gikan sa usa ka pasyente nga gi-amputate sa usa ka publiko nga ospital diri sa Cebu,” Oriol said.

(It turned out from our probe that the left leg belonged to a patient who underwent amputation at a public hospital in Cebu.)
He explained that the discovery initially raised alarm because of the manner in which the body part had been discarded.
“Nakahatag ato og kabalaka kay wala gitarong pag-dispose sa pamilya ang maong left amputated leg. Apan sa atoang lawom nga imbestigasyon, nahibaw-an nga gikan ra diay to sa usa ka medical procedure nga gipahigayon sa usa ka pasyente dinhi sa Cebu City,” he added.
(It cause alam because it was not prperly disposed of. Deep investigation showed it came from a medical procedure.)
Not linked to other discoveries
Oriol emphasized that the Talamban incident has no connection to the human remains found elsewhere in Cebu over the past several days.
His clarification came after authorities separately recovered a human head in a grassy area along Dawis Road in Barangay Cansojong, Talisay City, on Saturday, July 11, and human skeletal remains believed to belong to a woman in a swamp area in Barangay Perrelos, Carcar City, on Friday, July 10.
Police have ongoing investigations into both discoveries.

Family apologizes
Oriol said the patient’s family could have been held liable for the improper disposal of the amputated body part.
However, he said no complaint was pursued after the family, particularly the patient’s child and the child’s husband who disposed of the leg, apologized to authorities.
The severed leg was discovered in a creek in Barangay Talamban on July 3, prompting police to launch an investigation before eventually tracing it to the hospital procedure.
