Convicted hitman Vince Muscat, known as Il-Koħħu, has told jurors that those involved in the alleged plot to assassinate Daphne Caruana Galizia were prepared to place the bomb even if members of her family were inside the car.
Continuing his testimony on day 11 of Yorgen Fenech’s trial by jury, Muscat recalled searching for Caruana Galizia during Notte Bianca and Independence Day in the weeks leading up to her murder.
He told the court that, on the night of 4th October 2017, the explosive device was moved from a garage in Naxxar to another in Santa Venera because it was closer to Valletta, where they believed Caruana Galizia might be.
Muscat said he, Alfred Degiorgio and George Degiorgio searched car parks around Valletta looking for either Daphne Caruana Galizia’s vehicle or her husband’s.
According to Muscat, George Degiorgio told them: “Regardless of whether her children or husband would be in the car, we still have to do it.”
The allegations were made by Muscat while giving evidence under oath and have not been determined by the court. Yorgen Fenech has pleaded not guilty to charges that he masterminded Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination.
